Real ID

Real ID

Don't forget we only have one month to satisfy this before we can board a plane. I'm going to Chicago to see the babies in June so I got myself down to the DMV today.

Ladies: please take your marriage license. My paperwork of what to bring did not note this very important detail as I only took my ancient birth cert and invoices with my name to prove who I was. So....the sweet lady told me I needed my marriage license....but, I could have them print one after completing a long form for only $14.00, which of course I did. I chose to go to a DMV 20 miles from my home as the Roanoke one has horrid people. They were great. All done.

RE: Real ID

Interesting that you posted this. Not about the Real ID, that's not what I was thinking.

But the last three or four times I have flown, I didn't have to show my ID, just a boarding pass. My picture was already up on the TSA monitor when I stepped up.

That's great. You must have an inside track. Fed???
Don't answer that. They have put me through a couple of times at O'Hare and Roanoke just looking at me and checking my boarding pass that I set up online before I arrive at the airport, but for the most part, I have to provide my ID. I fly to O'Hare about three times a year. Luckily, a non stop flight from Roanoke.

I was just blown away by the marriage cert. I am a detail person and nothing was noted to bring it.

RE: Real ID

A marriage cert is proof of court approved name change.

No, not a fed. Civilian. Verifiable because I was given the extra SSSS search award in Indiana once, lol. Lots of extra questions, etc. I told the agent I'm not concerned about the search, just do your job quickly
so I don't miss my flight.

Hahahha! Mega search for sure, etc. hmmmmm.....You're lucky. And the TSA are so mean.

RE: Real ID

Some can be mean, most are professional and some are funny. Returning from out of the country in Atlanta, Mrs G and I were pulled out of line and walked over to a locked door. The agent opened the door, said go on through and enjoy your day. We just totally bypassed customs!

Wow! Talk about service. That is something! You guys saved so much time. When I was in Europe with the girl scouts in 2003, I got the Hanes underwear inspector at customs inspecting my rocks I brought back from Brighton Beach in England. He let me go through. He was very nice and I begged.

Not a problem for me as I don't intend to ever fly again.

If this thing passes requiring RealD to vote, still won't be a problem for me.

Wish I didn't have to fly...the cattle stampedes and all of that craziness. I'm sure I'll be flying out there for many years to see those grands. I go alone alot of the time because of an elderly dog or just to babysit for them, and it's too far for me to drive. (for me)

You should look into TSA PreCheck.

RE: Real ID

Ha! I refuse to fly and my hubby gets sea sick.
I’ll be staying right here on Terra firma!

Thankfully it’s an easy 6 hour drive to the Banks for us. Not really interested in going anywhere else.

RE: Real ID

One of my best friends gets horribly sick on planes and never flies. Cars and boats for that matter...

She drove to her parents anniversary party in Tucson last year by herself with a tent she used a long the way. Talk about guts! I'm such a baby.

They are our guests for Independence Day this summer at the OBX and is a complete hoot. She loves the OBX so much.... she's from Buffalo.

Hope you don't land with the Hanes underwear tester.....

I've often thought about starting a small kiosk business in an airport that sells stuff taken by the TSA. Or, better yet, get those prized pieces back to the owners. My daughter still doesn't know her college pledge paddle that the TSA took from us went into oblivion. She begged us to take it through O'Hare 12 years ago.

Amen! I have no need nor desire to fly on an airline ever again. Things in the “friendly skies” changed radically after 911. If I were a billionaire I would probably have my own helicopter and pad next to my country estate just to take my dog on a morning country ride. But I have no desire to ever be even close to an airport. In the late 80s into the early 90s I flew out of Chicago O’Hare for a commuter airline. I cannot even imagine what the planet ORD is like today.

Right, EZ. And don't use the restrooms at O'Hare as many out of country folks live there and use it for showering and other stuff.... I'm a germaphobe and hold it until I'm in Lincoln Park. I was approached wayyy too many times last fall past their black backdrop shield as a single woman travelling. Kinda scary. Luckily, I'm much taller than they are. It's totally a bad situation. Maybe I should fly into Midway.....

TSA - "Are you carrying any weapons?"

Me - "I had a double bean burrito for lunch."

Yes, it’s been a long time for me, but if you have the option, always choose Midway over O’Hare. It’s like First Flight airstrip on the lake compared to O’Hare both on and after arrival.

Thanks, EZ. Good tip. I've flown into Midway a couple of times and it is much more laid back compared to O'Hare. I do not enjoy someone grabbing my body parts...disgusting behavior. Daughter and I are working on plans for June to see my grands. So very sad to have to endure that to see your grandbabies. SIL texts that he is circling and circling the airport looking for me and I am safe when he arrives. He is the consummate protector.
