Storm's a coming

Storm's a coming

Attached is our only planned briefing on a coastal low forecast to impact eastern North Carolina starting tonight and lasting into Wednesday.

Key Messages

Heavy rainfall is expected to accompany this system, especially for immediate coastal locales where some embedded thunderstorms are possible. Up to 2" with locally higher amounts are forecast here, with 1-2" elsewhere.
A few strong thunderstorms are possible. Most of this activity should remain offshore, but there is a low chance (10-20%) a supercell could drift onshore posing a threat for gusty winds or a brief tornado
Cooler nearshore waters will keep winds low enough to mitigate any impactful coastal flooding. However, the presence of king tides and rough surf, especially between Cape Hatteras and Cape Lookout, could pose an overwash risk to Highway 12 especially in areas with vulnerable dune structures.
This is the only briefing for this system. If you have any questions or concerns, please don't hesitate to contact us.

I just got back from out of state and want to shout out that Beach Farmers Thanksgiving Dinner looked pretty damn good!

RE: Storm's a coming

Read that today. I feel like I am bad luck. Every time lately that I have come to our island, horrible storms occur. Immediately thought of that today when reading the IFP. Hoping Buxton doesn't take yet another nose dive. Went through maybe three or four of them this fall? Those people have been through enough and with the King Tide on the full moon, Dec 4th, who knows?

Thanks so much for the post!

Cannot believe it is 63 degrees in Frisco this morning! The rain though is badly needed by the looks of the sandbars sticking up around Oregon Inlet later yesterday afternoon while driving in.

33 in my hometown this morning and snowing! What a temp difference....

Bent,
I'm not sure the rain will affect the water level at OI. That's more than likely the wind direction.

Regards,

Thanks, Squid! I'm sure you are exactly right. It is very windy here too. Just had a chair blow across the upper deck.

My mind immediately went to the old saying... "Like peeing in the ocean trying to raise the water level." Laughing smiley

About an hour ago, had some sideways rain, big ol' fat rain, and rain that come up from unda-neath!

Laughing smiley It lightened up here in South Nags Head sometime within the last hour or two. I don't know exactly when it stopped, but it was ruthless there for a bit. Hopefully that's all for the day as I'd like to get out and about later.

My son went down for a few days and said the weather down in Frisco was just bad. they didn't even try to fish and he and his friends are the 1%'ers who fish no matter what.

On a good note he did all the tasks I asked him to do around the house and even a few more things he saw needed being done so that was a good thing. He came home to ice and sleet here in VA but was nice enough to bring back 15 lbs of green tails and some beautiful scallops.

And then one day, as quick as it started…It stopped.

Fagot about the stingggginggg rain, Jen-aaa! Hahahahhaha!

Memphis...I think he's from Phoenix! Whatever...

Dallas... don't know where he's from?

RE: Storm's a coming

I'm guessing that we got this storm as it moved north. Flurries all day, about a 1/2". Highs just about 30 and freezing fog tonight.

RE: Storm's a coming

Flurries continued to fall overnight and into this morning. Now about an inch of snow and it's blanketing everything.

RE: Storm's a coming

Very nice, Greg. You guys are getting some of this snow that fell in SW VA and other parts yesterday. Stay warm! Hope it doesn't get too deep for you guys and that your power stays on this weekend.

One of my sister's yards yesterday. Got texts from all sibs with their snow pics since I'm in just a cold rain in Frisco.

RE: Storm's a coming

Power shouldn't be a problem today, Bent unless a pole gets taken out. It's dead calm with no wind. We're making a few cookie dough batches today for Christmas and the view outside is the perfect backdrop. Sorry you're getting rained on.

Perfect thing to make in a winter wonderland! Very nice view at your home....so woody. And you burn a lot of wood, so you are set. Sister lost power yesterday as it was a very wet and heavy snow.

I'm fine with the rain and tomorrow should be sunny.
