Trout season

Trout season

You probably received the email, but trout is closed until June 30 for now.

After last winter’s cold snap and closure I was curious to see how the fishing would be in 2025 and for me it wasn’t as good. Limits were to be had, but neither my fishing partners nor I saw any trophies and our numbers were fewer. I guess it’ll be at least as bad this year.

I saw a chart showing previous cold stunned events and how long it takes the fishery to fully recover and it looks like we may have a few years to go before those 7-10 lbers are commonplace again. Hopefully we get a few years of warmer weather!

RE: Trout season

I am a recreational fisherman and usually charter a couple of trips a year along with surf and sound fishing 0n my own, I feel the pain for the charter captains. No trout, one drum, 3 blues, and no flounder. When everything opens up we to need to support these guys and give them our business.

RE: Trout season

I did good this summer with trout sound side Frisco. I did not venture down to Hatteras last summer for trout but our neighbors who are great fishermen were adamant the bite and size of the trout south of us were fewer than in the last 2-3 years early in the year but said it came back in late summer and fall.

I have not gone for flounder for 3 years. with no real season and the size limits its just not going to happen on a consistent basis for a rec fisherman to even try. It also pains me to watch commercial fishermen simply net flounders right and left during the closures and then that night watch people gig undersize flounders all up and down the sound with absolutely no consequences.
I think the rec fishermen and being obliterated by NCDMF.
