Sorry to report Jim Cantore in Salvo

RE: Sorry to report Jim Cantore in Salvo

^^saw that. I'm surprised he's still there.

Well, northbound on the Bonner is still open. Also he keeps ranting about how Dare Co. should have evacuated the northern beaches. Maybe he will high tail it up there since he believes it is going to be soooo bad up there.

Does the Weather channel get special treatment from the NPS?

They just showed one of their guys using his "quad copter" to take over head pictures of Rodanthe around the speedway.

TWC is also promising more "quad copter" pictures tomorrow of the aftermath.

I thought that as of 6/27/14, the use of drones is illegal on NPS property.

You guys... all of you... just prove his methods are an overwhelming success.

In his business - rule number 1... be the one they talk about....

and he doesn't care what you're saying... as long as you are.

Good point Bluefish. It's like advertising/marketing" doesn't matter if you hate the commercial as long as there is product recognition

Thanks for getting it judyk! Once you do, everything they do and they way they do it becomes simple to understand. Too simple.

RE: Sorry to report Jim Cantore in Salvo

Wow lots of Cantore bashing. I must admit I enjoy his antics. I do think he may have gotten too big for his britches, but I also think he knows his weather.

Rob, what they actually say in show business is "the only bad publicity is no publicity."

This guy is live right now... just past Bill Mitchell Airport...

"Earliest land fall in June....."

Let me check my way back clock, June, Jim?

RE: Sorry to report Jim Cantore in Salvo

Natl Hurricane Ctr - Arthur is the earliest hurricane to hit North Carolina in a season since records began in 1851. The previous record was July 11, 1901.

RE: Sorry to report Jim Cantore in Salvo

Jim Cantore reported about 45 minutes ago that the eye of the storm was over "Hanker's Island." Guess that's wherever the heck he is.

RE: Sorry to report Jim Cantore in Salvo

Just saw NWS update that it came ashore between Cape Lookout and Beaufort. Gust of 101.

RE: Sorry to report Jim Cantore in Salvo

Why don't people like him?

Drama queen capitalizing on others misfortune. Creates unnecessary panic. He's an entertainer, not a meteorologist.

Just the facts, mam.

Your facts are wrong again ... Jim Cantore has a batchlors degree in meterology. If you are reporting on disasters like hurricanes sure he is reporting on others misfortunes.

There always has to be someone to blame for everything doesn't there?

"Jim married Tamra Cantore, whom he met while at TWC. Their marriage produced a daughter Christina (born in 1993) and a son Ben (born in 1995). Tamra suffers from Parkinson's disease and both children have Fragile X syndrome. They divorced in 2007. Cantore does charitable work for both diseases, supporting FRAXA, the Fragile X Research Foundation, and the Parkinson’s Unity Walk. He also contributes his time to Make-a-Wish Foundation events around the country and he has also served as a celebrity cabinet member with the American Red Cross."

Bachelor's Degree, not "batchlors". I know how hard you must work getting all of your facts together Dennis, I hate for you to mess up like that.

RE: Sorry to report Jim Cantore in Salvo

I would have been surprised if he didn't have a degree in meteorology. TWC used to be a bit more serious as a weather outlet. Now, if you want to see the forecast, you have to wait out a weather related reality show or documentary. Even they make the distinction between their meteorologists and on the air personalities. Google it and see the number of fan clubs these folks have. Not just Cantore. You'll see detailed discussions of their wardrobe and jokes they tell. Like I said, entertainers. Not much different from major news personalities: they may have journalism degrees, but they're still newsreaders.

Gee, I'll bet you are a real blast at parties. While you are probably tucked nice and safe in bed in OH worrying about my correct spelling, Jim C is advising us what weather conditions are on the Outer Banks. Laughing smiley

Its days like this I miss John Hope.

RE: Sorry to report Jim Cantore in Salvo

Just woke up to Cantore at Real. Glad to see they made it through ok. Can't wait to see it for myself in a few weeks.

I just find puzzling, that he can report major catastrophe, and evacuate and save yourselves now... from the very same beaches and towns he's saying it's not safe to be in. If it's so bad: WTH is he still there?

RE: Sorry to report Jim Cantore in Salvo

TWC coverage definitely seemed a bit toned down. They kept mentioning it would be a beautiful weekend there once the storm passed. Cantore seemed quite grateful to Real sports for hosting him. All in all better coverage than usual.

Puzzling to me is how you would ask that question. TWC is providing a service. Yes they profit, but they are providing a public service. They have the resources to help them stay safe, and im sure they hunker down in the safest place possible. Still they are in some danger, but thats what they do.
