Canopies Part 2

Canopies Part 2

Due to the limitation of the number of characters allowed and length of this message I will be splitting it into 2 parts, this is Part 2 of 2
Seems there is more interest in Canopies, than a truly more important issue that ‘Surfpainter” has brought to our attention, that being, 5000+ views which is good, but less than 100 replies.
‘The wild horses of Corolla are again being seriously jeopardized by the threat of commercial development of the north beaches. Developer Gerald Friedman wants to build a hotel, boardwalk, and 19,000 square feet of commercial buildings including office, service, retail, recreational and entertainment uses! If you love the wild horses and the fragile land that sustains them - HELP US SAY NO TO THIS DANGEROUS PRECEDENT. It will surely usher in the end of these unique beaches as we know it. This area is located at the north end of Swan Beach, mp17.
Will, If I'm out of bounds posting this notice I will remove it asap.’
There are about 100 responses for ‘Surfpainter’, now do a search for ‘Canopies’, how many different threads have address this issue, and this issue will start up again next summer.
I have included the link provided by ‘Surfpainter’ for those who have not replied .

Solutions
I am hopeful when the canopy folks run to the end of their complaint list and everything is perfect, they start to channel their efforts toward more important issues .

Those who are guest for a week or two that travel to OBX once a year who waste their precious vacation time counting canopies and tallying distance between canopies should perhaps consider vacations elsewhere, where nothing is allowed on the beach after a bewitching hour, this includes people.

Those who are local, could / should find a more noble and less selfish endeavor to support, such as;
write letters to your Congressman or Senator to support these pressing and important LOCAL issues;
Support / non support for off shore oil exploration, don’t see any comments on that issue remembering what happen in the Gulf of Mexico, it will be decades if ever , before the gulf returns to normal
Wind farm construction off shore( Green Energy)
Get involved or form a group that would help support and get the Bonner Bridge ( safety rating single digits on a scale of 100) replacement started.
Similarly, what can we do to help keep the ‘Oregon Inlet navigation channels open’ for the Waterman. whose livelihood depend on that water way being open and provide the GREAT seafood that we all enjoy and Promotes the OBX economy.
Get behind ‘Surfpainter’ , I commend you that has already signed up, but here is the URL for the other 5000 who viewed ‘Surfpainter’, entry, who has not

Establish a HELP/volunteer system prior to any catastrophic event, such as when Hatteras was without power, water , food, many without shelter. If you can’t be here, Send funding to help feed them.
Yes, I did supply $$$ during this crisis…

Setup and advertise a convenient summer food banks/drop off point that OBX summer quest could deposit or leave food that might be thrown out upon leaving after their vacation , to be distributed among the needy.
Do something about the ‘NOT SAFE ‘kite boarder’ issue behind Jockeys ridge
Write the Chamber of Commerce, realtors and local Police Dept. regarding the traffic nightmare that happens every Sat. during peak rental season , causing multi mile backups when coming onto OBX.
Suggest to the Chamber to turn the traffic lights to flashing Yellow, and try as an experiment to let trained traffic police or trained ‘flaggers’ control traffic including through Duck, which in my opinion is a major contributor to this problem. I don’t think it could get much worse and maybe a bit better
The Hatteras realtors are already sending the guest through Elizabeth city route 17

In conclusion , Local should find a better cause to direct their energy, yes, I know ‘ Nagshead’ has passed a canopy ordinance, now get those ‘pens’ to work, and support something that is useful that everyone will benefit from.
Visitor should enjoy their precious 1 of 2 week vacation instead of aggregating oneself with nonsense,

None of u s have badges, hat or whistle, just opinions,
and in the infamous words of ‘Forrest Gump’ ,
‘’that's all I have to say about that”

RE: Canopies Part 2

So, you are saying that people should care more about the issues that YOU feel strongly about, while you are dismissive about the ones they choose to care about?

Pretty much.

+2

Two posts in one thread would have made for easier reading.

RE: Canopies Part 2

I am very sorry that the beach in front of the house your either own or rent is public property and does not belong to you. How dare Nags Head try to keep you from claiming it as your own by loading it up with your beach junk. It just isn't fair that anyone who wants to can claim your piece of beach as their's for the day. We really need to do something about this.

RE: Canopies Part 2

You assume that locals aren't involved in other issues?
You have your head in the sand and should consider attending a town meeting or two! You either live here or you don't and should research your issues before you post your opinions. Maybe consider being part of the solution instead of the problem?

RE: Canopies Part 2

We are talking apples and oranges here.

Canopies or the lack of etiquette by some who use them is a minor vent. Oregon Inlet and allowing the type of development the OP is describing on the northern banks are huge and have major impact.

There is a reason why so many vacation on the outer banks, it is not for the fancy hotel and boardwalk. You can get that a couple of hours down 95 at Myrtle Beach or a number of hours north in Atlantic City, etc.

ETA: just read part one, this is why I will always stay south of the bonner, Geez perhaps the famiies with the little ones should not set up in areas known for windsurfing, etc. Have had numerous issues at Canadian Hole with folks thinking it is cute for the little ones to wonder as far out into the sound as they can, then oops a near collision and mommy and daddy are pissed off.

RE: Canopies Part 2

Surely ppl can be concerned about both issues?

Apparently, your long winded diatribe didn't garner much support.

RE: Canopies Part 2

Today's article. 300 canopies were left out one day in August. Inconsiderate jerks.
