Carteret residents get earful from Dare residents

As Cape Lookout National Seashore, immediately south of Cape Hatteras, continues its planning process, Carteret County residents are expressing anger and dismay with what is being proposed.

“I’ve been in government all my life,” Carol Lohr, executive director of the Crystal Coast Tourism Authority, said. “I’ve never seen such undocumented studies reviewed as they’re (Cape Lookout National Seashore) using.”

RE: Carteret residents get earful from Dare residents

^^ Another undoubtedly biased ifp article not to be read by me. Public opinion meeting... hardly, just an opportunity for a few to have a hatefest for the NPS.

RE: Carteret residents get earful from Dare residents

Was actually not a NPS hatefest at all - maybe a few disparaging things about the empty $1000.00 suits of SELC!

Really? you obviously did not take into account the comments made by the Dare County commissioner, et al towards the NPS.

Glad you opened your closed mind a little and read the article! Banana Thumbs up

BTW, the truth is not disparaging, just because your feelings were hurt.

Closed mind??? As a matter of fact, I did not read the article ... I attended the meeting ... any questions? Big grin

RE: Carteret residents get earful from Dare residents

I attended the meeting as well and must have heard a different message than some others. Perhaps we take away what we wish to hear?

Ya mean that you missed the three chances (at least) to hear the Dare County commissioner rail on the NPS?

I had to smile when the committee chair and others professed that they were "critter" lovers, but my impression was that their critter love only went as far as it did not interfere with their "recreation" at CHNS and Cape Lookout. It was obvious to me the dislike of the commission and the political hacks towards the NPS.

Please relate to all of us any positive comments presented OK?

RE: Carteret residents get earful from Dare residents

If it is "railing" on NPS to lament the negative impacts on the citizens and visitors to Hatteras then you may have a point. What I heard was many appeals for balance and fairness. The purpose of the meeting was for the good people of CALO learn about what is about to happen to them. Perhaps the NPS management there will not be so complicit with the heavy hand of the extortionists from SELC? The new requirements give the park superintendents more leeway to balance access and protection. My guess is that several of those folks from Cateret County know a lot more about the flora and fauna of their islands then the DOI operatives. Local knowledge is always the best. The suits from SELC are only concerned about churning billable hours and will continue to find a way to do that until we cut off the taxpayer extortion laws. ESA has had many unintended consequences - the enviro extortion industry is one of them.

RE: Carteret residents get earful from Dare residents

^^ Unfortunately the same ole stuff was passed on ... business will die, unemployment will significantly rise, and visitors will go elsewhere and the sky will fall and the NPS is to blame.

When there was a downturn of business the blame was put on the NPS for implementing a management plan for ORV use at CHNS and nationwide economics or actions of Mother Nature were not taken into account.

I cannot speak for Cape Lookout; however many NPS personnel from the Outer Banks Group have native ties that involve lighthouse keepers, lifesaving service, commercial fishermen, and folks that have lived here for generations ... so I am not buying your flora and fauna knowledge pitch.

As for the people visiting elsewhere because of the CHNS ORV management plan. I noted that comment was made about people writing letters that they would do exactly that, but we all know that visitation is up and continues to rise.

The hype continues that ORV advocates try to lead visitors to believe that all beaches are closed or will be closed, but we all know that all those recreational activities continue for residents and visitors year round.

I know little about the SELC and I doubt you do either; however I do know that they were instrumental in making the NPS implement a ORV management plan for CHNS and IMO that is a good thing.

When we read our history books, we find out that many species of wildlife (or as some of you folks want to call them "critters") are now extinct because of our actions and we shake our heads in amazement that it happened. My hope is that my children and their children do not have to wonder why our generation allowed things like that to happen.

Bubba,

How can you be so obtuse?

RE: Carteret residents get earful from Dare residents

Dennis,

How can you be so moronic?

Happy Holidays, I would say CHRISTmas but I would be willing to bet you find that offensive.

RE: Carteret residents get earful from Dare residents

@Dennis, You must be real a$$ to remark to someone here that they are obtuse = stupid, slow-witted, slow, dull-witted, unintelligent, ignorant, simpleminded, witless.
Look to yourself for obtuse.

Jackie,

"The adjective obtuse is good for describing someone slow on the uptake: "Don't be so obtuse: get with the program!"

The adjective obtuse literally means "rounded" or "blunt," but when it's used for a person, it means "not quick or alert in perception"

... Next time you need to look a word up for its meaning please do a bit better job of it ok? Laughing smiley

... a month in solitary confinement for me huh?

Too bad there isn't a "Dis-like" button on these posts. I know there is the "flag" but that removes the post.

Just a "Dis-like" button. Wonder how many votes Dennis would get if there was one?

RE: Carteret residents get earful from Dare residents

I see you learned a new word over the weekend, Dennis.
I must say I am very proud of you. You were even able to use it properly in a sentence Thumbs up

But alas, obtuse(ness) is in the eye of the beholder. So, I believe you are simply having a hard time with comprehension.

I guess it should come as no surprise that it is completely lost on you that it would do nothing more than what the "like" button already does; and that is nothing of any substance. Happy winter solstice and new calendar year! Party
