Whats your point? I understand there a few Memorials up there in MA recognizing Patriots who died to overthrow tyranny. You keep yours. We'll keep ours, as modest as they are.

Tyranny? What tyranny? The British wanting to tax the colonies well below the tax rate that English subjects in England were subject to? Theeth smiley

I think Paul was just saying what the newspaper article said, that nobody even notices it. Quotes from the article below:

Veteran Currituck Commissioner Paul O’Neal has passed the marker hundreds of times without taking much notice.

“In all these years, I have never had one person comment negatively or positively or even that it exists,” O’Neal said. “It’s a giant ball in front of the courthouse.”

“Nobody ever pays any attention to it,” said William Etheridge, president of the Currituck County Chapter of the NAACP. “The only thing I know is there is a reddish globe.”

A large marble sphere, unnoticed and unprotested, sits in front of the historic Currituck County jail to commemorate the Confederate dead.

Yes, I think the whole "remove all Confederate items" movement is ridiculous.

If they want to, start with the slave owning Founding Fathers and dismantle the Washington Monument and Jefferson Memorial.

There's a movement to rename Calhoun College at Yale. Ridiculous.

I do agree with removing the image of the black slave in shackles kneeling before him in a stained glass image, though. That was a bit over-the-top.

I would put more than a few knots on anyone's head that tried to remove a wreath in protest that I had placed in honor. Beat up

RE: Currituck Memorial to Confederate Dead

Why is it an issue? They were honorable men who fought for the State they loved, not to perpetrate slavery. Even the US Government has recognized them as veterans.

I'm proud to be a Sotherner, but don't stand for everything they fought for. I'm proud to be an American, but don't stand for everything they fought for, either. USA Flag

A Yale professor reply: Yale graduate students receive unsurpassed support. You pay no tuition; we provide healthcare; we PAY you to go to graduate school. You've already cost us $400,000, and you're complaining???

People need to get a grip! There are far greater things to be upset about than monuments to confederate soldiers. Gosh half of our battlefield would be gone. Really - lets keep things in perspective. We are the only country in the world that survived a civil war and came through it whole again. There is work to be done to make us better - can we think about that?

It's a dirty shame how these students are treated. How will they ever be able to recover from such shabby treatment? All of you who work in exchange for a paycheck should donate a percentage of your income so that after they leave Yale, these poor children won't be victimized any further and suffer the indignity of having to work for a living. RE: Currituck Memorial to Confederate Dead

Now that the memorial has been "outed", would anyone like to wager that the protests will begin shortly, and the memorial will be removed?
