Thumbs up http://islandfreepress.org/2016Archives/03.15.25016-FederalOfficialsReverseCourseOnOffshoreDrilling.html Clapping smiley

RE: dropped plans to drill

In an otherwise dismal news world, this is one piece of news that should make a lot of folks happy. Good work everyone who voiced their opinions, for once it mattered.

RE: dropped plans to drill

Great news for the entire coast.

RE: dropped plans to drill

There goes all the fish structure... oh well.

RE: dropped plans to drill

Poorly-considered, short-sighted payback by a lame duck administration (oh, NO! I am sounding like contrarian Sea Oat on this one Serious smiley )

Hey, to each their own, and to those who feel strongly and did works, be happy!

Think you need to elaborate some....

Clown-Goblin

The word “troll” is thrown around a lot these days, and personally I find it a little too dignified for the people it describes. Trolls sometimes guard bridges, which seems like honest work. I much prefer the term “clown-goblin” to describe people who put forth intentionally inflammatory views just to get a reaction. This kind of contrarian takes a scorched earth approach, spraying contempt for everything in every direction.

RE: dropped plans to drill

same old "as long as its not it's not my backyard mentality" ... trying walking here next time :(

RE: dropped plans to drill

A little confused as I read these last posts. Is anyone here saying they were against preventing the off shore drilling? Not saying I am not aware that some were for it due to their wish for jobs working on the oil rigs...but these last few comments make me wonder where you're coming from?

RE: dropped plans to drill

There are 2 sides to every coin. But the real reason it was defeated... Have you looked at gas prices lately??? It will be back on the table again as soon as gas prices hit +$4.00 . Light bulb Car Car Car

RE: dropped plans to drill

Here's hoping you're mistaken!

Great editorial on the Island Free Press: http://islandfreepress.org/PivotBlog/?e=376#body-anchor Thumbs up

I am confused by your spin on the topic. I thought folks we either "against" or "for" offshore energy exploration?? As for me, I FOR energy independence, reducing reliance on foreign energy imports, and increasing our production thus improving The American economy and security. My opinion is that the doomsday projections of the opponents and Special interest groups has skewed informed debate.

Just my opinion, not a critique of yours. Big grin

RE: dropped plans to drill

No intent to "spin", merely trying to understand various people's responses. Sometimes it is not so easy on a message board.

My own personal view is that I am glad there will not be off shore drilling.

RE: dropped plans to drill

Good job guys, the last thing I want is to have oil rigs out there. Structures I sure would love to have maybe wind or hydo some day hope soon Thumbs up

RE: dropped plans to drill

While I am no expert, and my research on the matter is limited I can say I am glad there will be no drilling. I know accidents would supposedly be limited but I can't help but think of the disaster in the Gulf of Mexico. I just hate to think of that happening anywhere else.

RE: dropped plans to drill

Of course, the irony is that nobody would WANT to drill at sea if they could do it on land! The north slope of Alaska has proven to be more productive than the most optimistic estimates back when it was planned. We should be drilling in the small corner of the Arctic National Wildlife Refuge.

Understood and appreciate your opinion.

Consider that there was some unpleasantness back in 1941-1945 which resulted in heavy oils in great quantities coming on shore. It took time, but time, tides and work remedied those issues. And, we won by starving the enemy of energy.

A reasonable person would agree that worst case alarmist opinions regarding an extremely unlikely offshore problem would pale in comparison to those events, and none would choose to see it repeated. Let's go out and explore, and if reserves are found, and if the burdensome federal regulations make it profitable, let the industry take the risk.

It is a very low risk worth taking.

RE: dropped plans to drill

One issue with WWII is that you need to remember that our short memory citientry have forgotten 9/11 and it was less than 15 years ago! To expect most folks to remember our history and the 60 + ships sunk by Nazi subs off our beaches is very wishful thinking. Some would rather dream of inefficient, feel good, pie in the sky windmills then consider the security of self sufficiency by exploiting available resources that actually fuel useable energy. I would prefer to see the fossil fuels sucked from land but whatever it takes to make us energy independent will help keep us secure.
