Thanks!

The main attractions were crowded between 10-5. Before and after that time was OK. The best place in the park for us, Lamar Valley was not crowded. I wrote up a trip report in the "OBC Cafe: Life, Sports & Everything Else" section. Long boring read, but there are more pictures.

I've recently spotted a lot of spiders I've never seen before.....probably because I now look for them.....Lol!! One of the most unusual is this Arrow-shaped Micrathena. (Micrathena Sagittata) She's one of the spiny orb weavers.

RE: Nature

This sucker was sitting on my deck railing staking out my pond and the fish. I pretty sure he/she hasn't taken any fish lately (pond is very over grown right now), but he did get some last fall/winter.

Sad news, at least for us. Over the winter a heron was able to get under my netting and all of my gold fish are gone. Some of them have been there for for close to 10 years. My wife found him early in the morning, trapped in the netting while trying to fly away. He did free himself and I was holding out hope for some survivors, but I can confirm now that no fish are left. Not even the babies, which blows my mind. I had re-netted the pond afterward and made sure there was no way to enter, but I was just protecting the frogs. Plenty of them now.

I'm not angry, just sad. It's going to be hard to find gold fish right now. Gotta make some calls. Pond looks horrible right now. The fish really did keep it balanced over the winter.

Pond is (somewhat) cleaned and back to "normal". Getting a lot of visitors now.

Added 9 goldfish. 2 shubunkin's, 4 sararsa's , and 3 comet's. Here they are getting used to the new water temp, with a little visitor. The goldfish are very shy and are getting into the skimmer, but they will learn. Wish I had some older fish to teach them...

RE: Nature

This one showed up later that day...

RE: Nature

Frogs and snake.

RE: Nature

Fat frogs. Probably going to see eggs soon. They don't mind the snakes.

RE: Nature

Peek-a-boo

RE: Nature

Found out today these 2 are most likely male and female. That or they just wanted to wrestle. Wink smiley

RE: Nature

Checking the skimmer this morning for fish (found 4 of them) I also found this. Going to need to keep an eye out now. I let him go in the creek behind the house. They occasionally head to the pond instead of the creek. I've also found much bigger ones in the pool!

Yes, Hatteras was getting too crowded, as it does every July. Eleuthera is not like Nassau, but is ideal for Hatteras type of people. Lots of beautiful beaches and crystal clear water. My favorites are French Leave and Surfers Beach.
YES, you will have to show your papers to visit.
