RE: Nature

I always loved this thread! It's been so long I'm not even sure I remember how to post a photo.....here goes!

Great shot Nancy. Are you using a macro lens?

Wasn't able to get any good shots on our latest Outer Banks trip. Weather was bad most days.

Thanks, John! Yes to the macro question. Discovered a whole new world in my backyard during the Covid lockdown! Love your Pelican and Osprey shots! The Mockingbirds, too! Sorry to hear the weather was bad for your trip. I was down for a couple of weeks in March. Brigand's Bay the last couple of visits. Weather was great most of the time. Hope to make it back in the Fall.

RE: Nature

We came up on this little feller at the Ocracoke light house,

RE: Nature

Just nature being natural.

RE: Nature

My son took this one last week. I left it untouched (just barely cropped). It was one of the bad smoke days, so it was really hazy. The fox just layed there for about 20 mins.

RE: Nature

Here a direct shot of the sun that day. Night sensored lights were on that day.

Big grin We're at 4 weeks without measurable rain here in NW Philly. The only thing growing is the clover flowers in the lawn. I agree though, it is pretty. Calling for rain Monday, so fingers crossed. We need some rain soon. Wild blackberries haven't even flowered yet. Going to be an interesting Summer.

Hope you get some rain soon! Last summer was absolutely perfect for veggies and fruits, so hoping rain will come in soon gradually like it did last year.
Kinda dry in our area of VA. Hoping that our blackberries will be ready to pick when we get home from Frisco in a couple of weeks. Our bushes border our 4 acres so we have a lot to pick. I freeze them for the grands for their oatmeal when they visit in the summer. Picked a few blueberries last night before the sun went down...enough for a July 4th pie!( nice respite after flying home from Chicago). Hope the birds don't steal the unripened ones!!!

Foxes are beautiful, but mean. But I do love the pic!!!!!

Very cool. Is that your hive?

RE: Nature

Yes, it is now! That hive in the picture is just a smaller 5 frame hive that I baited with old drawn comb and lemongrass to attract swarms. I will move them into a larger commercial size hive in a couple of days. I have about 30 colonies at my permanent residence and some more 30 miles away at a friends orchard near Cape Charles, Va. I do not have any colonies in Hatteras.....my lot is too small and there are too many people.

I'd love to put a hive in my back yard. Not a huge lot, but I back up to woods, a field and a creek. No development behind me. I just never really looked into it and I'm not sure I could maintain it properly. Do you mind if I PM you for tips if I ever decide to try? Saying "no, you shouldn't try" is very valid as well.
