RE: Nature

A trip through a nature reserve today

Great photos Rick! What reserve is that?

Is that the only piglet for that sow? My uncle raises pigs and they usually have much larger litters. Wonder if it's different in the wild?

Not sure on the pigs, we found a larger group of piglets just past this one could have been hers she might have been greeting us, they are all use to getting fed by passing cars

The park is in Quebec north west of Montreal.Parc Omega

Love all these shots! What a thrill it must have been seeing these beautiful animals. Thanks for sharing!

RE: Nature

Mute Swan at Lake Lanier......this is the male.....I only know that because the female is sitting on the nest!

RE: Nature

Fishing in the drainage ditch in front of the KDH Belk. Yards from the bypass.

RE: Nature

We have some new arrivals at Lake Lanier.....five Mute Swan Cygnets....a couple of them were out of range for the first shot....hope they don't fall prey to the snapping turtles.

RE: Nature

Update on the swans......they are growing like weeds and will be fully grown at three months. I'm relieved that all five are still here and that there have been no snapping turtle incidents! Since the lake is only big enough to support a pair of swans, they will eventually be sold and relocated.

Recent rains have muddied the waters a lot. Those beautiful white feathers are looking a lot more orange than usual.

Both mom and dad are very protective; they will let you know if you're getting too
close!

RE: Nature

We got our first look at some newborn deer a couple days ago. There's 3 so far and they are tiny. Probably just days old.

Here's 3 hiding in the field. You can only see 2 of them.

RE: Nature

One of them running around today. Haven't gotten any good pictures yet. They don't stay around long.

RE: Nature

I love the the textures and patterns in dead wood so I stopped to get a shot of these sections of a downed tree this afternoon......didn't notice the fawn at first....she's in the upper middle of the photo. I've heard the Mothers leave them while looking for food....hope that's the case and she'll be back for this little one.

This mama-to-be was having breakfast on the airstrip at the Wright Bros. Memorial this morning. Looks like twins to me!

My drinking buddy, Jeremiah.......he always had some mighty fine wine!!

Now I can't get that song out of my head! The next bull frog I see in the pond will be named Jeremiah...

RE: Nature

The triplets made an appearance tonight. For about 30 secs. Here's 2 of them, taken through a sliding glass door (they scattered with me just shooting through the door). I have yet to see the mommy yet, so I'm a little concerned. Another doe usually adopts if something happens, and we've seen another doe around, but I usually see them all together by now.

I've never fed the wild life in the yard before, but if I don't see a mama soon, I'll start to leave little treats (probably a big mistake, I don't care). They have to be still suckling though.

John

RE: Nature

Went to Spring Park the other day with my step daughter and her boyfriend. It is not a big park but has a lot of history to it.
