Too Pricey for the Food you get 12/1/2010

Took my now fiance' there for our proposal dinner, a special time for sure, but had to send my steak back 2 times because it wasn't prepared correctly. We were sitting near the kitchen and had to hear the manager yelling at the chef for the mistakes. The steaks came back and was so full of grissle that I couldn't eat half of it. Nice atmosphere, good service, poor cuts of meat. For the money I expected better than Outback.

Great atmosphere for a date/special night including a walk around the waterfront. Excellent service and food. We had the Chef's pasta-shrimp special and the Bouillabaisse. Price for 2 was $100 including drinks/appet/tip. Kill Devil Grill is still our favorite but this was a great change of pace

We enjoyed a perfect dinner for two at 1587 on September 4, 2010. The bread was just wonderful and we shared a portobella mushroom appetizer (fantastic) and the 1587 salad (with melon and strawberries - very nice). One dinner was tile fish (wonderfully crunchy outside with a great sauce) and the other pasta with shrimp & beef tenderloin (the beef was tender & the flavor of the various vegetables & sauce blended well). A couple glasses of very nice Chardonnay. We were too full to try dessert (and nearly 1/2 the pasta went home with us).
This restaurant is on the higher price side (expect at least $100 for two), but the chef's attention to detail is worth the extra money for a special dinner. Nice view of the Manteo harbor.
As has been commented, there is no hard liquor - only beer & wine - but that is because Manteo restaurants are not allowed to serve liquor. If you want a martini you'll have to get off Roanoke Island or join the club at Stripers.

I eat at 1587 just about every Friday night. I hate cooking. I love sitting at their bar, having a glass of wine, chatting with other patrons & staff; and sucking up the good food. Always a great way to end the week.

We like to eat here on special occasions. The food is always excellent and interesting. The wine selections are superb. The view is very nice of the waterfront. My mother moved here recently and we celebrated my bday here. She said it was the best meal she has ever had. I agree.

True, don't come here if you are on a budget, but the food is amazing. They combine flavors in unusual and unexpected ways that is truly a feast for your tastebuds. Don't miss it. We go back every year!

I haven't been here yet because it's too expensive. If I were to go there, I would just get whatever was cheapest and drink a lot of beers. Three stars!

THE STAFF WAS VERY FRIENDLY, IT WAS WELL DECORATED AND ON THE WATER. THEY SHOULD ADVERTISE THAT NO HARD LIQUOR IS AVAILABLE. ONLY BEER AND WINE. VERY LIMITED MENU. IF I AM GOING TO SPEND OVER A HUDRED BUCKS FOR DINNER I WANT SOME SAY IN WHAT IT WILL BE. IT WAS MY 2ND ANNIVERSARY AND DID NOT WANT TO RISK IT SO MY WIFE AND I LEFT. I STILL BET THAT THE FOOD WOULD HAVE BEEN GOOD. A LOT OF PEOPLE SEEMED HAPPY THERE.

You Won't Miss the Filet 10/27/2004

Pricey, certainly, but it's also a place that's totally different from anything else you'd find in the Outer Banks. The menu is small, but the focus really is on the quality and taste of each individual dish -- each individual item, actually. Our group of 6 each ordered a different dish, and we were SPEECHLESS at the quality of our food. You won't miss the filet mignon -- try the LAMB CHOPS!

Over priced - skimpy menu 10/26/2004

Located on the Manteo waterfront, some love this place but I am not one of them. The menu is small and you can't get some things you might expect (like a filet mignon) and sometimes you can't get a local fish like tuna. Reservations are a must during season.
