The regular menu is okay. You have to get the cheese and beef eggrolls. The specials are awesome. Order before they run out!

You just can't go wrong eating here. The food and service is great. Kill Devil Grill consistently has great food. The specials are always delicious. The only cons to this place is the wait and they do not take big parties.

I initially reviewed mentioning raw tuna which I've since learned is the way the entree is intended to be served! The staffs response with apologies confirmed by belief that this was an error but in all reality it was just great service. I'll go back again for sure - might even eat that tuna this time!

I was there the same day as previous review. My tuna was also pink in the middle but I have always thought that is the way to enjoy the taste of the fish. Any more cooking dries it out. Don't forget the Key Lime pie! I think they are about to close for the season so I may have to wait until Feb for some more pie.

I ordered the grilled tuna over grits with black bean and corn salsa. The grits and salsa was amazing! Unfortunately the tuna was still raw inside. The server was extremely apologetic and immediately removed the entree from the bill. I had a visit from the manager who owned the mistake and offered to bring me an additional entree at no charge. I think this place is really neat and the staff is very professional and courteous. My visit was just a bad day I believe...

We were at the OBX the last two weeks as we have been for the last 20+ years . Had never tried the Kill Devil Grill. Food was great and the Chocolate Pecan Pie was to die for !! We dined at Owens and Blue Moon and would rate the Kill Devil Grill the best of the bunch at about 1/2 the price of our dinner at Owens.

We went on a weekday evening for an early dinner (5:30) and still had a small wait of 20 minutes. We got the cheesesteak eggrolls for an appetizer and they were delicious. I have been planning for a while that my OBX trip would include fried shrimp and so I ordered that here. The shrimp were very large, juicy, piping hot and perfectly browned. The fries were also terrific. Husband order one of the specials - a hangar steak and yukon gold potatoes and practically licked the plate clean. We will definintely return.

Yes, it's crowded get their early. The food is amazing and don't forget dessert. Key Lime Pie is my favorite. The regular menu is fantastic but their specials are amazing too! They recognize us as well because we tend to stick to 3-4 restaurants that have become our favorites in OBX.

Kill Devil Grill has become one of our top three choices on all of the Outer Banks. We have never been anything less than thrilled with the food, atmosphere and friendly service. Our love of the place is showing now because many of them recognize us when we go in now. WE have many friends who feel the same way about this fabulous eatery. Yes, in season there is a wait and it is crowded and annoying but that is nothing unusual here!

I was trying to get into this place all week. Finally got in for a late lunch. The Wings are amazing. We had crispy fried drum sandwiches that were the best fish sandwiches we ever had.

Small but good menu. Place is small as well and our party of 12 had to be split up, but that wasn't a big deal at all.

It seemed everyone in our group had something different and all were pleased.

Give it a shot. Prices were fair, too.

I eat there often in off season. If you go in season sometimes you have to wait. That is just the way it is. Try subing the grilled veggies for fries. They are cut fresh on the spot and are a treat and better for you. Love the grilled fish of the day and the way it is served. Very healthy meal. Award winning keylime pie. Great burgers also made with prime meat. For a consistantly good meal you can't find anyplace better on the OBX.

We had lunch Sept 2010 at KDG. Despite a leaky ceiling right by our table we loved it, great staff, fast service and excellent food, passed this crab snob's test. Desserts looked amazing. Will be back every year.

Don't know exactly why, but every year something gets in the way of us getting to the Kill Devil Grill. This year we decided that nothing was going to get in our way.

We left the beach around 4:30.....it was hard but we had been out for most of the day.....what a day! Climbed in the car and made the journey south from Sanderling, down through Duck Village and Southern Shores to the Beach Road. Took the Beach Road to MP 9.5 (more accurately 9.75) and turned into the parking lot around 6:30. It was fairly crowded and the counter was full so we opted to do the "back room". We got a nice table on the wall right away.

The front of the structure is a real Kullman dining car and its on the National Register of Historic Buildings. Where we sat is an addition to the dining car. Place was fairly spartan but with nice touches like the framed albums, booth style seating, open kitchen, a table-top juke box (unfortunately non-functional), wood ceiling, retro lighting.

Sal, among a few others from the OBXConnection had mentioned the crab cakes so we didn't even really check out the menu all that close....we knew what we wanted. Now my wife is a huge crab cake fan and tries them everywhere.....I on the other hand have had probably no more than a half of a fork full in my entire life. Don't know what came over me but I ordered the crab cakes along with my wife.

It took about 15 minutes before we were presented our "big plate" of the crab cake dinner. Dinner was served on green fiestaware plates. Plates had two beautifully colored fried cakes, cole slaw, french fries and a bowl of a type of tartar sauce.

We both took a bite of the crab cakes and were sent to heaven. I loved them and my wife said some of the best she had ever had. They were cooked perfect.....fried with just the right amount of panko bread crumbs so that they were crisp on the outside and moist inside. The crab tasted so very fresh....and it was as they advertised....."no filler, just crab". The fries were excellent as was the cole slaw. I didn't do the tartar sauce with the crab, but dipped my fries into it. With our meals I had a pint of Fat Tire on draught and my wife a couple of wines.

I saw a key lime pie at the next table so I ordered one. I am not a dessert person but the pie called to me. so glad I went for it......just wonderful. Could have maybe had a touch more "punch" to the lime but I'm being picky. The crust was great. Served with a strawberry puree on a plate sprinkled with powdered sugar.

What a wonderful place......comfortable, nice wait staff, great food and reasonable cost. Our total bill, including tax, for two crab cake dinners (market price), one beer, two wines, one key lime pie and one coffee was $69.27.

Thanks Sal! The Kill Devil Grill has now become one of our favorite everyday places along with Tortugas Lie, Blue Moon Beach Grill, Rundown Cafe and Corolla Village Bar-B-Que.

Highly recommended.

PS We loved it so much we returned for our last night's dinner. We had exactly the same dinners since we were so impressed with the crab cakes. Only difference is that we sat at the counter in the old dining car. We enjoyed it there more than in the back dining room since we always find interesting conversations with others at the bar.

Both visits made September 2010.

Their wings are the best with the homemade dipping sauce. They have very good fish specials on top of mashers or their cheesy girts. Finish your meal with yummy key lime pie. The best on the beach.
The apple crumb pie topped with ice cream is also good... One of the best burgers too!!

Went for lunch one day and had the freshest cheeseburgers and grilled tuna sandwich. Went back next night for dinner and were more than pleased. Beautiful pastas, fish and a great smoked chicken and mashed potato entree. This "diner" has taken simple food and put a fresh twist on it. Get there early because it gets packed! Can't wait to go again!

After hearing so much good we went one night for dinner. When greeted we were told we'd either have to wait or sit in the bar area. When we asked about the open booths we were told we couldn't sit there. We left to not return.

Tried the Kill Devil Grill for lunch when I went down to Nags Head this September. Had the BBQ chicken salad that was just awesome. Loved it so much went back the next day for lunch with the intentions of having another salad but they had a special that caught my eye. A cheddar stuffed turkey burger...so glad I decided on that meal as it was just awesome.

Great good and good service.

We love the Kill Devil Grill and eat there as often as we can. The chicken picatta is to die for, and the key lime pie is heavenly. The food as it is presented makes you think that the chef really cares about what he made. Beautiful food and friendly staff! If you haven't eaten there yet, you're in for a treat!!

Family and I ate here in July, per reviews and recomendations. Ecclectic atmosphere, the special, blackened tile fish was delish...I found the lunch menu itself to be a little less than spectacular, and the childrens menu fair at best. Prices and portions were unimpressive and a bit disappointing in relation to all the hype and praise it recieved. Our wait staff was fair, we are pretty low maintance, but he recieved standard tip, which is unusual for us, as we are notorius over tippers (our standard being 18.5%, better service=better tip).Would I go back? Sure. It was good enough to give a second chance, maybe for dinner this time.

We ate here and the food was excellent. My wife had the soft shell crab over a bed of grits and I had the Tuna special. The taste was spot on on every bite. All was cooked to perfection and our waitress Jen was very friendly. My kids liked it so much that they would take the four hour trip just to eat there again.

I'd heard so much about the Kill Devil Grille, I just had to try it. The atmosphere was very nice, but a bit cramped, the wait service was incredibly attentive and .... the food was great! I had the crab cake sandwich and it was yum. My cousin had shrimp over angel hair pasta and pronounced it wonderful. I will definitely return.

We ate here three times. Artichoke dip, seared tuna, wood roasted chicken, wings, white pizza, chicken picatta, and a burger. All were excellent! I was very supprised at the quality of the food and presentation for what looked like a very unassuming diner from the outside.
