My family and I loved this restaurant. We were a party of 9, we arrived around 5:15pm and were seated within 10 minutes. The food and drinks were outstanding. It is very casual which we appreciated. We all enjoyed seafood as well as steaks and burgers. The crab bisque soup is awesome. We got 2 bowls to go to eat the next night. Our waitress was friendly and attentive. I highly recommend The Mad Crabber and will visit again if I am ever lucky enough to return to Avon.

We ate here last month & thoroughly enjoyed our meals and service. Generous portion sizes. Casual/friendly atmosphere. Pretty darn reasonable for what you get too.

They no longer have my favorite, snow crabs and shrimp, due to the cost of snow crabs, but my wife and I both had "Fisherman's Pie", a special. It was like shepherds pie, except shrimp and crab instead of ground beef. It was great! We'll be back!

I love a place where you can just sit and eat crab legs!!! Hubby doesn't like to pick crabs but there was plenty on the menu to keep him busy. Crab legs were cooked perfect.

Party of 10, plenty of parking, small wait of 10 mins. Apps and food came out at average speed. All 3 Bronze Mahi "specials" were tepid to cool. I got the salad as one of the sides. It was a sad little salad, all wilted to the bottom of the fake wooden bowl. Yeah I know, it's just a salad, get over it. I took a bite of the Mahi, cool? took another from the thickest part. Yes cool. I did request another Mahi and a half portion came out in 10 mins. Hot and Delicious, but only half as Delicious as the full serving would be I imagine. Did not ask for a new salad but figured that salad had switched places with Mahi under the heat lamps earlier in the evening. Now isn't that SPECIAL.

Our son and his family went for dinner on Friday night (7/19/13) before packing up the house. They said it was a very relaxed atmosphere, picnic style tables, butcher paper on the tables, just all around fun. The food was good and they enjoyed their meal (and cheesecake dessert).

We go here a couple times a year because it is within walking distance from our house. It's our kind of place. Butcher paper on the tables & a wash up sink on the way out. I've had their big platter several time and you can't go wrong with it. This week I had the shrimp and crab legs and was in heaven!

.......then this place is for you! We have eaten here multiple times over the past several years and always had great food and never a bad experience. It does get pretty crowded and a little loud but everyone in our party from grandparents, to kids, to mom and dad have loved it every time! Always a must do....

We have been here before and liked it enough to go back this year. The waitress brought out my crab leg dinner, and my baked potato fell on the floor when the waitress put the tray of food on her stand. She proceeded to pick the potato (wrapped in foil) up and and put it back on top of my crab legs. She brought me the plate of crab legs with the potato from the floor to me, and I refused it. She wanted to know why I would not take it! I said I would need eat food that I watched fall on the floor, and she said it was fine b/c the potato was in foil and the crab legs are in shells! I advised I have to touch the shells to get the meat out, and since the potato was on the floor and was placed on the shells, I basically am wiping my hands on the floor before opening my crab legs. She refused to take the plate away, so I told her to give it to me. She then refused to give my my food. I told her she might as well give it to me. I didn't trust that what I sent away would be replaced with fresh food. She proceeded to say "Are you f#&!$*g kidding me" in front of our group of 11, including 3 kids, aged 5, 3, and 1. The mgr came over, they left the food from the floor on an empty table while they brought out a fresh plate. How could you serve expensive food to a paying customer, who WATCHED IT FALL ON THE FLOOR?????? We spent over $400 there, and will not take our business back. It's their loss. If they will serve you food that you watched hit the floor, imagine what may have happened to your food behind closed doors.

The food was just ok. It was over priced and u couldn't even get a free refill. The crab cake was good but it cost 8 bucks to add it to a meal. 150 bucks and couldn't even get a free refill

We showed up right in the middle of the dinner hour on a friday night and I suspect a lot of others had the same idea: eating out the last night of vacation. As a result we had to wait a while for a table (there were 8 of us) but it was definitely worth it.

Despite the place being jammed the service was very friendly and very fast. Be aware that the food is served on disposable plates and some of the items such as salad dressings, dips, etc., are presented in small packages. Larger tables are basically picnic tables.

We had a lot of different entrees at our table and everyone liked what they ordered. The shrimp and jalapeno popper appetizers were great; scallops wonderful, too. Several had the king crab legs and thought they were very good.

Overall a fun place to eat and we will definitely go back.

We come here every year and never leave disappointed. From the excellent service to the great food. Kids can draw on the table cover and display there works on the walls. Nice relaxed atmosphere.

Our family ate here last summer and we were very disappointed. Staff was ok. My mother and myself left still hungry! There wasn't a lot of food on our plates. My niece received more food in her kid meal than we did! Best part was drawing/coloring on the "tablecloth."

We ordered some sort of tangy chicken sping rolls as an appetizer and each of us had a mixed bag platter. I think my husband's came with a softshell crab or two and mine had crabcakes. We like everything and will definitely go back.

Visited in September on our first OBX vacation. I had the catch of the day (flounder) and my wife had steamed shrimp. Pretty good food and the prices were comparable to the area. The atmosphere is laid back and nice.

The Mad Crabber is one of our 'must' see spots. Nothing fancy but good seafood. If you have kids it is good to go early (before 5:30) as it does get crowded in th summer. The kids love coloring on the brown paper tablecloths and we love the seafood and pitures of beer! Yum!

We had heard good things and were really looking forward to this one. However, it was a total dissapointment. The food was less than desirable, and extremely over priced. The service was TERRIBLE. Wait staff was extremely rude and slow. Will not be going back on our next trip to OBX.

we make it here once everytime we get to OBX. sea food is very good, lots of brown paper table cloths to draw on while you eat. sampler platter is real good!
