Rating: Nice place for a large group 7/30/2013

Stopped by on a Thursday night in July and we were surprised that we were the only people in the dining room. A little more "upscale" then what I usually go for at the beach, but still a really nice experience. Our waitress was very nice and helpful. We thought our food could have came out a little quicker seeing as we were the only ones there, but it wasn't horrible. I decided on the Hawaiian Chicken Sandwich, which was delicious and big enough to fill me up and have some left for the next days lunch. I had ordered sweet potato fries, but was given regular fries. Once the waitress realized the mistake, she quickly went back and brought out a fresh basket of sweet potato fries. Would definitely give them a second try. Also, the ladies in our group enjoyed checking out the jewelry/gift shop after dinner

I have been disappointed by fine dining on the beach over the years, but Port O' Call is a pleasant exception. The food was very fine and the service was great. The decor is a little strange, but certainly unique.

I enjoy eating at the Port O Call everytime I visit the OBX. The service is always accurate and friendly.

My wife and I were "lost" on the beach road one night during our trip and this place jumped in front of us, totally different from other OBX restaurants. Inside, the decor is really unusual, lots of antiques, art paintings, etc..

But when we sat down, service was quick and attentive, and the food just WOWed us. Fresh tuna, fresh Mahi, and a great crab dip for appetizer.

We were really hungry, so we may not be the best critics, but this was memorable.

Rating: Great place for bike week 4/20/2011

We came down for Bike Week 2011 and stopped by Portocall. The food is really good, but the bands and friendly attitude make Portocall a must stop for anyone travelling to Nags Head.

We came in for the cornhole tournament, and ended up staying for dinner. Maybe because we were freezing outside, the dining room was extremely comfortable, but food came quickly and prices were average beach prices.

Had one of the best nights last night with my girlfriend. We sat at the bar lounge for some apps, and everything was spot on - tuna was fresh, food came quickly, and bar service was always around when we needed them.

Rating: Allways a good time at POC 3/25/2011

I dont go out much but when i do Port O call is one of my favorite spots. During the summers they allways have great bands and lots of fun events happening throughout the week. Really enjoy hanging out here with friends and have lots of good memories.

I have never had a significant problem in all the years I've been dining at POC. Of course, every now and then a mistake is made but that happens everywhere you go. Good food, service, and nightlife

Had a phenomenal time last year at the Southern Culture on the Skids show. Bartenders were attentive (they actually listened!) and cocktail girls were spot on. Overall, great service.

Rating: Can not believe someone does not like Port O' Call 3/15/2011

Someone directed me to this site and I can not believe what I read. I am a local on the Outer Banks and have eaten at Port O' Call for years and never had a bad meal. I actually shop in the gift shop and have found great deals on silver and they even carry Charles Albert my favorite designer. I go to the Night Club when I do go out (rarely) because they have best bands in town. I have seen National Recording Artist perform there that you would normally have to go out of town to see. So from a locals view Port O' Call is the place to go eat, shop and dance!

My family and I go to Port O' Call every year we vacation to the Outer Banks (10 yrs). This last year the food was great and one of us had All You Can Eat Crab Legs and Shrimp which were perfectly cooked. The Gift Shop had lots of different stuff and I fell in love with the jewelry, the silver and bought a bracelet. We took the kids home and came back to hear a rock and roll dance band with no cover charge beacause we had dinner. My favorite place on the Outer Banks! Try it out you will lov it to.

WE ATE THERE JUNE 2009, FOOD WAS NOT GOOD AND THIS RESTAURANT WAY OVER PRICED, WILL NEVER GO BACK!!

My wife and I ate most of our meals out the week that we were at the beach. We enjoyed all the other places we went too but I was disappointed with this one. While the building and the gift shop was interesting I was not impressed at all with the food, especially for the money. Perhaps is was just my choice of entre.

Rude service, expensive and bad food. Need I say more.

Rating: Pass By This Port. 8/24/2008

The Port O'Call commits one of the worst restaurant offenses in my book. It is entirely presenting itself (and pricing itself) as a fine dining establishment. The decorations are cloying, ugly, and old-fashioned, and the food is resoundingly subpar, no matter what Frenchy labels they stick on it. The menu is incredibly dated and uninspired. Just bad all around, and passing itself off as something it is not. If you really want a fine dining experience, check out the excellent and authentic Ocean Boulevard in Kitty Hawk instead. It's expensive, too, but it delivers the goods.

I had one of the worst meals ever at this place.. fish with some sort of funky sauce that really was awful. My daughter's meal was terrible too and it was pretty expensive. We also hated the decor: heavy velvet curtains; too dark for the beach.I'm amazed each year that it is still open.

Had Thanksgiving buffet in 2005. It was very good. Nice atmosphere, good wait service, and good food.

Had dinner at the Port O' Call on August 2, 2006. It was the worst dining experience we've had in over 30 years. We'd made reservations for 21-22 people. Manager was put out whe we arrived with 22 people. And it was all down hill from there. Delays in service, two main courses not arriving at all, wrong dishes served, poorly prepared, misrepresented food--that wasn't blue crab, some of it appeared to be fake crab. The kids like dessert but this was the first time ever we picked it up on the way back to the cottage instead of ordering at the restaurant. We didn't want to spend one penny more then we already had.

Rating: Food and Service were Very Good 6/29/2006
Reviewer: Greg

Just ate there a couple nights ago and the food and the service were excellent. The only reason I didn't give it five stars was because the desserts we ordered weren't that great. But, the duck and the rockfish my wife and I ordered were outstanding. Our waitress, Julie, was very attentive and had a very pleasant personality. Don't know about a couple years ago, but now you can go in with casual clothes on - no problem. We will definitely go back again.

I also noticed very few postings. We were there in June of 04. I was part of a group of 14 adults. Five of the couples had problems with their dinners. One of the women ordered a well done steak, it was rare at best. My wife ordered a dish with 3 different types of fish, one was practically raw, same with another lady in our group. I ordered the she crab bisque as an appitizer and never got it,although it was on my bill.Somewhere in the middle of taking our orders and serving us, our waitress vanished, never to be seen again that night. To top off the whole disaster,as is the custom in the OBX, a 15% tip was added to our bill (for good service?).Normally, I that doesn't bother me and if my service is good I will tip well above that, but it was offensive in this case. The manager did very little to make up for a terrible evening (our last night there). We have been to the Outer Banx many times, LOVE IT, and are planning our next trip back. Don't let looks fool you! There are plenty of nice places to eat down there. Don't waste your money or time here.

We went there a few years ago.....(noticed no one put a review up so I thought I would LOL) Wonderful food....fairly high priced, and a bit too "foo foo" for me. If I'm going to the beach, I'm not looking for someplace to dress up and dine.....I want a place I feel as comfortable dressed up as I do in my shorts and flip flops....this ain't it LOL but the food it great ROFL
