Ok, finally got an update. Not from NCDOT but from County Comissioners. The extent of the updateon 10/23 the Comissioners were told the elevated road way will be addressed within a month or two. Not much detail.

No berm, why? Finally we are being toldUSFWS! But USFWS can build and maintain berm's to protect their ponds and the canal zone? We never asked for a berm on the ocean front, just a berm to protect the roadcould be close to the road. Actually, I thought I read somewhere that NPS (and I assumed USFWS) are required to allow berms to protect the road. Something smells bad!
Oh and its been a month since the event pictured in the article but repaving in Ocracoke is more important than maintaining access to the mainland? And it has taken over a month to give us some information on a time line! And even now it will take another couple of weeks to give us a dates? What's the hurry? I just hope the influx of people for Guinness Book's world record surf fishing tournament don't meet with harm on their way here. Also, let's hope no one needs emergency medical carebecause helicopters don't fly in 40 mph winds.
